Some Comfort and Joy

Welcome to Some Comfort and Joy

Encouragement & Inspiration in Every Season

Advent is almost here! The joy and the busy-ness of the holiday season has arrived. This year for the Advent season we will be sharing quotes from our Advent book Comfort & Joy: Readings and Practices for Advent (Herald Press, 2024) and from Sherah-Leigh’s newly released Advent book Unhappy Holidays: Blessing for a Blue Christmas (Herald Press, 2025).

Taking time to be intentional in our reflection and action allows us to receive God’s goodness and grace, sustaining us for whatever is unfolding in our lives.

We are Gwen Lantz and Sherah-Leigh Gerber, and we created this space as a way to share about finding the sacred in the ordinary of life.

Each week of our chosen series, we share a reflection (comfort) and then a few days later a practice prompt (joy) focused around scripture texts read through an Anabaptist lens.

And may our journey together through Advent bring us all some comfort and joy.

In the hustle and bustle of the holiday season

With endless to-dos, it can be difficult to slow down and truly connect to what matters. Comfort and Joy: Readings and Practices for Advent (Herald Press, September 2024), offers a unique blend of reflections and spiritual practices, noticing the sacred amid the ordinary.

With readings to walk through the Advent and Christmas season, the weekly offerings in Comfort and Joy include a variety of devotional meditations and invitations. Scripture texts drawn from A Women’s Lectionary for the Whole Church by Wilda C. Gafney accompany reflections, journal prompts, and spiritual practices to help us slow down and savor this meaningful and holy journey through Christmas.
